How To Draw A Rubber Duck

Rubber ducks are not only fun to play with in the bath, they're also fun to draw! If you're new to drawing or you love drawing cute animals, a rubber duck is a great place to start, since it mostly has smooth lines and minor details. Once you've finished your drawing, you can hang it up in your room or show off your skills to your family and friends. Quack quack!

Draw a circle for your rubber duck's head. Near the top of your page, draw a large, round circle. It doesn't have to be perfect, but try to be neat!^[1]
- Rubber ducks have large heads, and they're usually a bit bigger than their bodies.

Make a teardrop shape under the circle for the body. To make your duck's body, draw a pointed teardrop shape with the point facing to the right. Make the side that's underneath the duck's head slightly curved to show the rubber duck's chest.^[2]
- The point of the teardrop will be your duck's tail.

Add a beak and an eye on the duck's head. Time for some details! Draw a small, round circle near the top of the duck's head to create an eye, then fill it in with black. To make your rubber duck's beak, draw a pointed "V" shape sticking out on the side of the duck's head.^[3]
- If you want to draw your rubber duck with its mouth open, draw a line down the center of the beak.

Draw a fluffy wing on the side of the duck. Rubber ducks have wings, too! Make an almost round oval with a slight indent in the side to draw the duck's wing. Since it's a rubber duck, not a realistic one, it doesn't have to look perfect.^[4]
- Rubber ducks usually have small, clipped wings near the center of their bodies.

Shade the eye and the tail. Use a black marker or a pen to fill in the eye of your duck, leaving a small space at the top for the light to shine. Take your pen and rub it lightly on the back of the duck's tail to add a bit of depth and character to your drawing.^[5]
- Shading your duck is optional, but it can help your drawing look more 3D.

Color the duck yellow. Classic rubber ducks are bright yellow, and they're usually all one color. Grab your marker, crayon, or colored pencil, and fill in your duck all over with the brightest yellow you can find.^[6]
- If you want to mix it up a little, try filling in your duck with red, green, or blue instead.

Outline the bathtub by drawing a large half-circle. The bathtub is going to be the biggest part of your picture, so block out enough space in the center of your page. Start by drawing a half circle with the open half facing up to look like a bathtub holding water.^[7]
- Claw foot tubs are large basins held up by 4 feet on the bottom, which is the look you're going for here.

Add the bathtub feet and the upper edge. To make the feet for your bathtub, draw ovals at the bottom of the tub, one on the left side and one on the right side. Then, draw a long rectangular shape over the top of the entire basin of the tub so it looks like the ridge of your bathtub.^[8]
- Since you're looking at the bathtub sideways, you only need to draw 2 feet instead of all 4.

Draw a tall faucet on one side of the tub. On the right or left side of the bathtub, make a long looped shape, kind of like a candy cane. Draw some water droplets dripping out of it so your audience can tell that it's a water faucet for your bathtub.^[9]
- Bathtubs like these usually have tall, fancy faucets.

Make some bubbles by drawing lots of small circles. Start making your bubble bath by drawing small circles on the top of the ridge of your bathtub. You can have them spilling out the side, too, if you want your bathtub to overflow.^[10]
- For a super fluffy bathtub, think of making a cloud on top of your tub.
- You can also draw a few circles floating in the air if you'd like to draw your bubbles flying up toward the ceiling.

Perch a rubber duck on top of the bubbles. For your finishing touch, make a small outline of a rubber duck with its head, body, beak, and tail. Fill in a large eye on the side of its head, and give it a nice smile to show that the duck is having fun in the bath!^[11]
- You can even add a couple of rubber ducks if you have space.

Color the bubbles blue and the duck yellow. The nice thing about bathtubs is that they're usually white, so you can leave yours blank on the page. Use a blue marker or colored pencil to fill in your bubbles, then add yellow to your rubber duck's body and head.^[12]
- For some extra details, draw a sailboat in the bath with the ducks or add a towel rack on the back wall.
