How To Draw Okc 2019 New Jersey
Nearly a calendar month agone, Thunder beat author extraordinaire Joe Mussatto spied a rendering of the team'southward newest alternate jerseys in the media guide.
He shared it with our coverage team, and since I've made a addiction of ranking Oklahoma City's alternating uniforms every now and once again, Joe asked me where these new ones would land in my rankings.
"Probably depends what colour they are," I told him after looking at the renderings, which seemed to be in blackness and white.
"That's the color!" Joe informed me. "They're all white."
"Wait, what?!?!" I said. "Eeeewwwww."
The drawing looked similar something from a kids' coloring competition of yesteryear. Yous recall those, right? Newspapers would print the outline of something — a Christmas scene or an Easter egg or whatever — and kids would color it, cut it out and send it in for a prize.
I literally thought the Thunder had decided to take a color-your-own-uniform contest.
"Maybe information technology's amend in person," I said a couple weeks agone.
'Drippiest histrion in the league':Why Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the Thunder'due south latest mode icon
Fri night, we'll get to run across those uniforms in person for the first time. The Thunder will habiliment its new "City Edition" uniform when the Kings come to town, then will vesture the uniform for every Friday habitation game the rest of the flavor.
Included in the deal: an alternate court.
I'm fired up about the different court, a first since the franchise came to Oklahoma City. But I take to admit — I'1000 pretty fired up most the alternate uniforms, too. While I haven't seen them in the flesh, I've seen them in pictures and in video. The renderings really didn't practice them justice, and I don't retrieve that'southward the mistake of the creative person who drew them.
The uniform just pops differently in iii dimensions.
Beginning of all, the all white is sharp. Crisp. Icy. Clean. Hard, Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has called it. I like when OU and OSU wear all white on the football game field, jersey and pants, and information technology looks just as expert on the basketball court with bailiwick of jersey and shorts.
Then on the jersey, the OKC running down the right side and the numeral on the left side are minimalistic only classic. Same goes for the OKC shield and the two diagonal stripes on the shorts. They are in gray scale, and it might non sound like much, simply on that all-white background, all of it stands out.
Now, the new uniforms have gotten some ridicule. I've heard jokes near the Thunder taking this whole rebuilding-blank-slate idea to an farthermost with these uniforms. Orlando big man Robin Lopez, he of the floppy hair, was a flake harsher.
"It's been over a decade," he wrote on Twitter, "and despite all the slap-up bball players they've had, Oklahoma City has absolutely zero expert uniforms in their history."
That ain't true.
The Thunder has had plenty of good uniforms, and my latest rankings are proof of that. Let'southward get to them.
'I look up to him'::Why Darius Bazley went out of his fashion to praise Thunder heart Mike Muscala
1. Sunset orange "Statement Edition," 2019-present
I accept long been a fan of the orange alternates, simply Nike's reiteration of the Adidas original is 2nd to none with the vivid orangish and the Thunder blue. The OKC on the forepart is likewise a nod to the jagged, staggered lettering that first appeared in 2017 on the Thunder's navy "Statement" uniforms. The whole look is assuming and strong.
2. OKC Memorial slate greyness "City Edition," 2019-20
Such a splendid tribute to the 25th anniversary of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The slate grey uniforms with aureate lettering and white accents were striking, and they had astonishing details. The golden Gates of Fourth dimension running down the sides of the bailiwick of jersey onto the shorts, for instance, ended in white blocks representing the Reflecting Puddle.
3. Native American turquoise "City Edition," 2018-19
Another tribute compatible that looked magnificent, as well. The bright turquoise uniforms paid homage to the country's Native American heritage. With diamond banding on the shorts and strong block OKC lettering with the aforementioned diamond influence, the look was both bold and regal.
4. Navy "Argument Edition," 2017-2021
I'grand deplorable to meet these go. They were amongst Nike's first offerings for the Thunder after taking over the design of NBA jerseys in 2017, and they were a hit. Navy blueish body. Orange jagged lettering. Thunder blue pipe. But the all-time item was the back and sides with a gradation of bluish that looked like sound waves. Sleek.
5. All white "City Edition," 2021-unknown
Told you I liked these uniforms a lot more my beginning-blush reaction indicated. The all white is elementary in a good way. Some of the "Urban center Edition" uniforms, washed as mashups of previous uniforms, have also much going on. The Thunder's mashup has elements from several past uniforms without being crazy busy.
6. Dusk orange, 2015-17
Here'southward how much I like the new "City Edition" compatible — I put information technology alee of the original orange uniforms. This look was once at the top of my rankings. I really never thought it would autumn out of the top five. Even though it has, I still love this uniform. Navy cake messages, numbers and piping was a strong dissimilarity to the orange.
vii. Christmas, 2016
Alternate uniforms worn only for Christmas Day game don't spring to mind like the others, but the last Thunder Christmas bailiwick of jersey is the best. Blue jersey and shorts with no piping or flourishes. White letters and numbers including an one-time-timey script Thunder running uphill across the front end of the jersey. Clean and crisp.
eight. Christmas, 2012
The NBA chosen them "single-color jerseys," which wasn't totally accurate. The jerseys and shorts were solid blue, a hue a piffling more than electrical than Thunder blueish, but the blue block Thunder lettering beyond the front was outlined in orange. Dissimilar only in a expert fashion.
ix. Oklahoma "Metropolis Edition," 2020-21
This uniform was done in tribute to Thunder fans all across the state with OKLAHOMA, not OKLAHOMA CITY on the front. An outline of the state was on the waistband buckle, too. The uniforms had a retro feel with diagonal blue striping fading into orange stripes. The look grew on me as the Thunder wore the uniforms terminal flavour, merely nevertheless, it felt a bit too busy.
10. Christmas, 2015
Believe information technology or not, this uniform moved up in the pecking order since my final ranking. It didn't exercise anything to go better. I just think the navy with off-white trim, piping and scripty Thunder deserves better than where it was ranked last fourth dimension.
eleven. Christmas, 2014
Thunder bluish with the shield logo and number on the front. Just on the back, players wore their first names instead of their final. There was something fun about superstar basketball game players going by Reggie and Kevin on Christmas Day.
12. Navy and white, 2012-16
These were the Thunder's original alternates. Luckily, the alternating uniforms have improved since. The navy jersey with white THUNDER running downwards the front end vertically looks more suited for intramurals.
13. Christmas, 2013
Brusk sleeves. Bleck. If y'all could get past the sleeves, the all-blue compatible with the monochrome Thunder shield was fairly precipitous. But you couldn't get past the sleeves. Still can't.
xiv. White short sleeves, 2015-17
Did I mention brusque sleeves are bleck? Worse, the Thunder wore these often. Double bleck.
15. Grey "City Edition," 2017-18
Information technology takes something truly awful to rank below the brusque-sleeve uniforms, but these were truly awful. The gray faded to a drab, washed out hue. The OKC on the forepart was small, like an afterthought. The slashes of orange and blue were haphazard. Simply a mess.
Needless to say, the Thunder has had some quality alternates and a few that weren't and so great. But count me in equally being excited well-nigh the newest ones.
They aren't as eeeewwwww as I commencement thought.
